Sump pumps are essential for the efficient emptying of sumps, pits and tanks that fill up with excess rainwater, dirty wastewater or process fluids. Automatic sump pumps are popular as they come with float switches that automate the switching on and off of the pump when the sump is full and needs emptying. This prevents overflowing and ensures that the sump is always emptied in a timely manner.

Generally speaking, water sump pumps are submersible, meaning they are placed inside the sump basin and are fully submerged in the fluid. This allows them to empty the pit more efficiently, without relying on suction to remove water from the sump.
